Goals:

Chumey MSS will strive to:

• facilitate optimal learning to occur through creating a culture of learning and ensuring effective implementation of curriculum;
• organize relevant and appropriate co-curricular activities focusing on the all round development of the learners;
• provide adequate facilities and resources for creating conducive environment for learning and ensure their effective use and care;
• establish the best management practices by promoting transparency, accountability and efficiency through involvement of staff and students in decision making and decentralization of power to the class teachers, committees and captains, and
• promote values that help learners to grow into productive and useful citizens who will be committed to serve the Tsa Wa Sum with full loyalty and dedication.
  

Location and History

Chumey Middle Secondary School is located on the highway about 20km from Jakar Dzong towards Trongsa under Chumey Geog, Bumthang. It was started as a primary school with seventy students and four teachers in 1983. It was upgraded to a lower secondary school in 1998 and then to a middle secondary school in 2001 with the construction of new buildings through World Bank funding.

Chumey MSS has grown and progressed over the years and has classes ranging from PP to X. This year, there are 19 sections with 627 students and 25 teachers supported by 16 non-teaching staff.

The school provides boarding for students from classes seven upwards coming from the community schools in the geog and from other geogs. There are two units of 32 bedded girls’ dormitories and three units of 32 bedded boys’ dormitories, accommodating 242 boarders this year.

With the continuous increase in the strength particularly in the secondary classes, construction of a four classroom block and one unit of 64 bedded girls’ dormitory has been proposed in the 10th FYP.
